Units for Metal Swarf and Cooling Lubricant Recycling
General Information
Our process is suitable for all long- and short-chipping workpiece materials.
With our units, Metal Swarf and all Cooling Lubricants based on oils
and esters – native lubricants as well – can be recovered.
Process Features
 |
The unit LRA-150 E deoils 50 kg of
metal swarf, depending on its degree of pollution and particle size, in approximately
4 – 7 hours. The combination of the two units
SEA-2400 / LRA-3000 reaches a throughput of
375 kg/h with approximately 1:45 hours of
process duration. |
 |
Magnesium swarf can be deoiled down to < 0,1 percent by weight of lipophilic
substances. |
 |
The recovered cooling lubricants show a service life and
process performance like new cooling lubricants. |
 |
Even several recycling processes do neither significantly alter the
physical properties (flashpoint, viscosity) nor the chemical
composition and the content of additives within the cooling lubricants. |
 |
Ecologically less objectionable native cooling lubricants can also be recovered
by LÖMI's units – no artefacts are created. |
 |
During the entire process, solvent emissions are kept to an
absolute minimum and are solely possible through the tank deaeration. Its exit air
can be purified. |
 |
Significant saving of investment costs and project duration as well as
considerably more compact units compared to processes with supercritical
CO2 |
Development of the Process
LÖMI's units for Metal Swarf and Cooling Lubricant Recycling were developed during a mutual research project
with Technische Universität (TU) Braunschweig, Germany, and were supported by
Deutsche Bundesstiftung Umwelt.
Initial Situation |
 |
In an analysis of a grinding machine in series production of a car manufacturer, an amount of
4500 kg abraisive slurry per year was determined. |
 |
Because of its high oil content of up to 60 percent by weight, this material has to be costly
disposed of as hazardous waste. |
 |
Both the contained cooling lubricant and the metal swarf are irretrievably lost. |
|
 |

Filtering by means of conventional belt filters |
One possible Solution |
 |
The use of modern filter technologies or lowly viscous cooling lubricants already reduces the amount
of abraisive slurry significantly. |
 |
The costly disposal of the abraisive slurry and the purchase of fresh cooling lubricant remain
necessary. |
|
 |

Filtering by means of low pressure belt filters |
The Solution by LÖMI |
 |
The entire recycling of the Cooling Lubricant and
the Metal Swarf is accomplished with units by LÖMI. |
 |
Technische Universität Braunschweig analysed the cooling lubricant recovered by LÖMI's units.
Neither in service life nor in process performance did it show
differences to new cooling lubricant. |
 |
The oil-free metal swarf can directly be supplied to metal recycling. |
